(LOT 118)
c.1926 Babe Ruth Supports the Military - PSA Type I Encapsulated Christy Walsh Syndicate Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

The 1926 season would see the "Sultan of Swat" post one of his finest seasons ever, walloping 47 dingers, batting in 153 runs and posting a sensational .372 batting average and likewise outstanding 1.253 OPS! The "Bambino" had returned with a vengeance from a dismal 1925 campaign, leading the Yankees to the 1926 World Series that they would unfortunately lose to St. Louis in seven games. The "Babe's" popularity was now at a stratospheric plateau, with his renowned agent Christy Walsh negotiating a seemingly infinite number of promotional events for the flamboyant Ruth. One such occurrence was during the 1926 season when Walsh had his iconic client promote both the military and legendary "Louisville Slugger" Company.

Dubbed "49 BABE RUTH LOUISVILLE SLUGGER BATS GOING TO 49 MILITARY TRAINING CAMPS", one of the marketing campaign's photos is presented here in outstanding condition, as Ruth is pictured in a period-style military plane surrounded by six enthralled soldiers. The somewhat dark-contrasted Ruth is holding a number of what we would assume to be "Ruth Model Bats", with the ultra-fine centering, relatively clean surfaces and superior resolution all contributing to the outstanding aesthetics. No obtrusive flaws are evident, with the faint diagonal wrinkle situated in the upper right quadrant barely visible to the naked eye. A highly coveted Christy Walsh Syndicate illustration, it presents the incomparable Bambino showcasing one of his typical "off-the-field" advertising campaigns at the height of his unparalleled career! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
