(LOT 93)
c.1920's Lou Gehrig Classic Batting Swing – PSA Type I Encapsulated APEX Photograph Co. – Measures Approx. 5" x 7"

This magnificent Lou Gehrig c.1920's batting photo portrays the "Iron Horse" completing his colossal swing, donning his classic Yankees gray flannel road uniform. Portraying his twisting body motion that generated such incredible torque, unfortunately for Gehrig it appears that in this particular image, he came up empty. Measuring approximately 5" x 7", this PSA Type 1 offering reflects near-perfect photography, with the Gehrig central image emulating fine clarity and contrast. The relatively clean surface only reveals a light diagonal crease near the lower left corner and some faint snow around the hallowed Gehrig pose. Its flipside reveals the critical "APEX PHOTOGRAPH COMPANY" credit stamp as well as a few notations reading "Lou Gehrig" and "He missed this one".

While Gehrig's extensive list of unfathomable batting accomplishments includes 493 round-trippers, nearly 2,000 runs batted in, a .340 lifetime average, a 1.080 OPS, a 1934 Triple Crown, and incredibly knocking in over 100 runs in 13 consecutive seasons, his iconic legacy is still linked to his incredible 2,130 consecutive game streak that came to an abrupt end in 1939 via the incurable ALS disease. It was that illness that eventually led to his incomparable "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" speech on July 4, 1939 that still resides as baseball's "Gettysburg Address". Simply stated, Gehrig's immortal stature is destined to outlast time, substantiating why any of his awe-inspiring collectibles such as this grand batting photo are among the Iron Horse's most revered heirlooms! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
