(LOT 64)
"Fresh to the Hobby" 1955 Ashland/Aetna Oil College Basketball 6-Card Complete Strip incl. Linville Puckett; John Brewer; Harold Fraley; James Floyd Jr.; Coach Bobby Laughlin; Howard Shumate

Breathtaking to say the least, this complete 6-card 1955 Ashland/Aetna Oil College Basketball vertical strip includes the original factory issued 6 un-cut subjects from the Kentucky-based Wildcats, Eastern Maroons, and Morehead Eagles. Players include guard Linville Puckett (Wildcats); forward John Brewer (Wildcats); forward Harold Fraley (Maroons); center James Floyd Jr. (Maroons); coach Bobby Laughlin (Morehead Eagles) and forward Howard Shumate (Morehead Eagles). The top header includes the standard "hole-punch" utilized for purposes of hanging the 6-card strips on a gas station rack.

This 6-card panel includes 2 players from 3-different Kentucky-based schools, with the header caption reflecting "KY. – EASTERN – MOREHEAD NO. 4" text (the "NO. 4 denotes the KY; EASTERN & MOREHEAD schools). Other than the aforementioned standard hole punch, the remainder of the strip retains its factory "fresh" brilliance, spearheaded by the 6 bright portrait images, razor-sharp edging, and sparkling surfaces. No glaring flaws are evident (save the punch hole), and each subject's classic Ashland Oil ad-back depicts the player's vital statistics, graduation class and hometown. Super eclectic and "fresh to the hobby", along with the other un-cut strips in this auction it resides as the first un-cut strip we have ever come across, proudly standing as one of the most obscure cardboard offerings for even the most sophisticated enthusiasts!
