October 2, 1963 - Sandy Koufax Strikes Out 15 Yankees in 1963 WS Game #1 – United Press International Type 1 Photo – Measures Approx. 7' x 9" – PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

This outstanding 8" x 10" offering issued on October 2, 1963 portrays Sandy Koufax about to shake hands with Dodger catcher Johnny Roseboro after the fire-balling southpaw struck out a then record 15 Yankees in game#1 of the 1963 World Series at Yankee Stadium! Going the distance to defeat the mighty Yankees by a 5-2 score, Koufax's blazing fastball and "nose to toes" curveball would be too much for the Yankees to handle, with the Bronx Bombers virtually swinging at air that entire afternoon. Koufax would toe the rubber again in Game#4 in Los Angeles to once more thwart the great Yankees attack, besting the Yanks 2-1 to clinch the 1963 Fall Classic in a four-game sweep.

Although Koufax's record 15-strikeout game would eventually be bested by Bob Gibson's 17 K's in the 1968 Fall Classic against Detroit, it still goes down as one of the most dominating performances in World Series history. In fact, Koufax would open the game with five consecutive strikeouts that still stands as a Series record. Indeed, this world-class illustration represents one of Koufax's greatest performances and as a virtual anticlimax, its breathtaking aesthetics include a nearly flawless image depicting crystal clear clarity, fine centering between four bright white borders, and one of the most candid Koufax images you will ever come across. The verso reveals the critical caption detailing the day's record-setting events and the United Press International credit stamp. One of the most significant images of the iconic Sandy Koufax you will ever come across, it merits the utmost accolades from any world-class photo collector!
