(LOT 641)
1933 Babe Ruth Hawaii Barnstorming Type 1 Photo – Associated Press - Measures Approx. 6" x 8" - PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

Babe Ruth's brilliant agent Christy Walsh was well aware of the National attention Babe Ruth would garnish if he would partake in a number of barnstorming tours across the United States. In the 1920's, major league baseball did not exist "west of the Mississippi", justifying why this ingenious concept would not only enhance Ruth's unparalleled popularity but likewise promote the significance of professional baseball to millions of devout fans. The 1927 and 1928 "Bustin Babes/Larrupin Lou" post-season tours received immense adulation from the baseball community, and after the 1933 season, the "Babe" would extend his barnstorming tour philosophy outside of the Continental U.S. by traveling to Hawaii!

This ultra-rare 6" x 8" Type 1 photo portrays the "Sultan of Swat" portraying his mighty swing in the capital city of Hawaii, Honolulu, in November 1933. Based on the back caption, Ruth has just walloped a 350-foot homer into the right field bleachers in the sunny Aloha State to the delight of his captivated fans base. The Bambino's barnstorming team would win this contest by a 5-2 score, with Ruth playing right field, first base and even throwing a few pitches. A relatively clean surface, detailed caption and classic Associated Press credit stamp are the final superlatives to an extremely obscure offering that exhibits the immortal Ruth crushing another one of his celebrated long balls!
