c.1930's Jimmie Foxx "Portrait" Type 1 George Burke Photo –Measures Approx. 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" – PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx will always be considered one of the greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history (along with Hornsby & Aaron); finishing his magnificent career with the Boston Red Sox after playing 11 seasons with Connie Mack's Athletics. The powerful slugging first sacker tested the limits of baseball's furthest fences with his sheer power that could equally match or surpass any 21st century steroid user. Starting his career in 1925 with the Philadelphia Athletics, Foxx steadily increased his at-bats each year until he finally played his first full season in 1929. It was that fateful 1929 season that "The Beast", Foxx's popular nickname, broke out of his cage with 33 home runs, 118 R.B.I.'s and a sensational .354 batting average. He would eventually end his incredible career with 534 round-trippers, knocking in 100 or more runs an incredible 13 consecutive seasons from 1929 thru 1941 with 6 of those seasons with the Red Sox (1936-1941).

His uncanny power placed immense fear in the hearts of most of his opposing pitchers, and he walloped 30 or more home runs in 12 consecutive seasons including two seasons in which he hit 58 and 50 dingers! For all these reasons, collectors pursue his highly coveted artifacts, justifying why this outstanding c.1930s George Burke Type I photo resides as one of "XX's" highly coveted collectibles. Encapsulated by PSA, the image portrays an imposing portrait image of the immortal Foxx as he dons his period-style Boston Red Sox uniform and cap. The overall aesthetics are superb, and you literally feel as if Foxx is gazing into your eyes via the stunning stoic pose. The only major flaws appear to be edge trims around the entire perimeter, obviously not impeding upon the critical central image. The verso reveals a few typed notations including "246" and "A1" that reside as typical markings for the renowned photographer George Burke. In closing, Jimmie Foxx's unfathomable batting statistics justify his elite standing in our National Pastime's glorious history, with this captivating world-class offering the perfect testament for his elite stature!
