(LOT 453)
1951 Parkhurst #66 Gordie Howe Rookie (PSA 8)

This outstanding PSA NM/MT 8 Gordie Howe 1951 Parkhurst rookie card is one of the finest specimens you will ever encounter, with only 3 PSA specimens graded higher! Typically, the question of who is the greatest hockey player ever typically comes down to three choices: Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky or the seemingly ageless Gordie Howe. True, Gretzky eventually broke all of Howe's scoring records and Orr revolutionized the defenseman position via his electrifying style of play, but Gordie Howe truly established the hallowed scoring benchmark for all to follow. Howe's prestige and accomplishments are synonymous with the iconic Babe Ruth, including a myriad of nicknames including: "Power", "Mr. Everything", "All-Star", "The Most", "King of Hockey", "The Legend", "The Man" and "Mr. Elbows".

Most famous of course is his renowned nickname "Mr. Hockey" and why not? Gordie Howe's unfathomable NHL/WHA career spanned a miraculous 5 decades, tallying 1,071 goals and 1,518 assists for a staggering 2,589 total points! Only Wayne Gretzky has surpassed those marks but not even Gretzky or any hockey player for that matter played in an amazing 1,769 games which still stands as the all-time mark. Along Howe's glorious path of success, he accumulated 4 Stanley Cup Championships with the Detroit Red Wings, claimed 6 MVP Hart Trophies and secured 6 Art Ross Trophies as the league's leading scorer. While his seemingly infinite list of accolades reads "on and on", it is obvious that his secured standing as one of the game's greatest player ever will outlast eternity, and it is for this reason alone that his 1951 Parkhurst rookie card (along with the Orr and Gretzky inaugural cards), may be the most sought after vintage cardboard artifact among Hockey enthusiasts.

Virtually all of the technical attributes are consistent with the seldom surfacing lofty grade, including an incomparable lithographic image of the immortal Detroit Red Wings Hall of Famer. Extremely bright and bold red hues emanate from Howe's classic Red Wing's jersey as he prepares to unleash another one of his goal scoring wrist shots. While the image does somewhat favor the right edge, additional stellar attributes include four super clean borders, blistering sharp corner tips, and a razor-sharp perimeter. The small print situated beneath Howe's classic pose portrays vivid registration, and the blank back reveals no surface blemishes, the final compliments to an extraordinary card that stands near the top of the "pop" charts. Indeed, this offering truly resides as your golden opportunity to emulate the iconic Gordie Howe himself, and score your own game winning goal by seizing his exalted PSA 8 rookie card!
