(LOT 312)
"Unique for the Grade" 1954 Bowman #93 Bill Serena - Correct ".977/.966 Fielding Avg." Variation (PSA Gem Mint 10) – "1 of 1": The SOLE Highest Graded Example!

The finest of its kind, this extraordinary "PSA Gem Mint 10" 1954 Bowman Bill Serena offering resides as the SOLE PSA 10 in existence! It should be noted that this #93 subject is the CORRECT ".977/.966 Fielding Average variation (as opposed to the incorrect ".983/.960" version). In 1953, slick-fielding Bill Serena handled 302 chances at both 3rd and 2nd base for the Cubbies, with the typically sure handed infielder making only 7 errors. While the 295 errorless plays (out of 302 chances) equals a stellar .977 fielding percentage, the Bowman Gum Company inadvertently printed a ".983" fielding % for the 1953 season; only utilizing Serena's 3rd base fielding percentage.

As was the case with 40 different 1954 variation cards, Bowman fixed their statistical errors, re-issuing the 40 erroneous subjects reflecting correct stats, with the Bill Serena subject being one of those highly coveted variations. A true "1 of 1", this miraculous card portrays a classic half/body portrait pose of the bygone Cubs infielder, with a truly outstanding "blue sky/green grass" backdrop revealing extremely rich hues. Near-perfect centering, blistering sharp right-angled corners and ultra-clean surfaces all combine to substantiate the hallowed assessment that places this "unique for the grade" marvel alone at the top of the PSA "Pop" Charts!
