(LOT 283)
"Unique for the Grade" 1954 Bowman #26 Billy Cox - Correct ".972/.960 Fielding Avg." Variation (PSA Gem Mint 10) – "1 of 1": The SOLE Highest Graded Example!

The "Best of the Best", this earth-shattering "PSA Gem Mint 10" 1954 Bowman Billy Cox offering stands tall as the SOLE and finest specimen on the planet. It should be noted that this #26 subject is the CORRECT ".972/.960 Fielding Average variation (as opposed to the incorrect "1.000/.960" version). In 1953, Billy Cox handled 246 chances at 3rd base, shortstop and 2nd base, with the sure handed infielder making only 7 errors. While the 239 errorless plays (out of 246 chances) equals a stealth .972 fielding percentage, the Bowman Gum Company inadvertently printed a "1.000" fielding % for the 1953 season.

As was the case with 40 different 1954 variation cards, Bowman fixed their statistical errors, re-issuing the 40 erroneous subjects reflecting correct stats, with the Billy Cox subject being one of those variations. A true "1 of 1", this seemingly perfect card reveals an imposing batting image of the star Dodger 3rd baseman as he holds his mighty lumber over his right shoulder. Brilliant color tints, impeccable resolution, pack-fresh surfaces, pinpoint corners and bright white borders all combine to more than justify the ultra-rare assessment that places this "unique for the grade" masterpiece as the undisputed "king of the hill!"
