1903 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet– Al Orth - Uniform "Type 2" Variation (PSA Good 2/MK - The Only PSA Listed "Type 2" W600 Orth!
This ultra-rare "PSA Good 2/MK" 1903 W600 Sporting Life Type 2 Mount of Al Orth arguably stands as his most elusive cardboard memento. Seldom surfacing for the taking, PSA currently lists this scarcity as the SOLE definitive "Type 2" Orth example with only a single other specimen listed for all possible Type related mounts. Similar to Babe Ruth, the formidable right-handed twirler Al Orth found significant playing time as an outfielder as well due to his superb batting prowess. Winner of 204 games over a stellar 15-year career, his finest season was in 1906 when he won 27 games and posted a 2.34 E.R.A. with the New York Highlanders (Yankees). From a batting perspective, he did manage 464 hits over those 15 seasons with the Phillies, Senators and Highlanders to the tune of a respectable .273 lifetime average.

Measuring approximately 5" x 7-1/2", the W600 Sporting Life Photo-type Cabinets were issued from 1902 thru 1911 by the Sporting Life Weekly Newspaper in Philadelphia, PA. and are one of the most coveted oversized cards in the hobby. Regarding this "fresh to the hobby" offering, simply forget the grade folks because the overall illustration is absolutely breathtaking! A somewhat dark contrasted Orth image portrays the finest possible crystal- clear clarity, with its relatively clean front side surface only compromised by an extremely faint "(1902)" penned notation that is barely visible to the naked eye (accounting for the "MK" qualifier). While the blank back does exhibit patches of light glue remnants from scrapbook removal, the more critical obverse side awe-inspiring aesthetics render the verso's surface issues virtually negligible!
