(LOT 591)
1968 Dexter Press Hank Aaron Postcard (PSA Mint 9)

On July 14, 1968, Henry Aaron became the 8th player to reach the 500-homer milestone when he belted a 3-run dinger off of Giants right-hander Mike McCormick in the 3rd inning. Only a year earlier to the day (July 14, 1967), long-time teammate Eddie Mathews had blasted his 500th home run, exactly two months after the legendary Mickey Mantle hit his 500th round tripper on May 14th. One of our National Pastime's greatest stars, it is no coincidence that the Dexter press company chose Hank Aaron as one of their exalted subjects for their eclectic 1968 postcard premium set that was printed for the prestigious Coca-Cola company. One of the pinnacle Hank Aaron examples just happens to be presented here, a breathtaking PSA Mint 9 copy that along with four other specimens, stands tall as the highest graded specimen on the planet!

Indeed, synonymous with "Hammerin" Hank's all-time standing, this spectacular masterpiece reigns supreme as the "best of the best!" Arguably, the greatest right-handed hitter ever (w/all due respect to Hornsby & Foxx), Aaron's lifetime achievements are ultra-extensive to say the least, and likewise, his representation on this cardboard masterpiece is simply astonishing! Most would agree that a majority of the technical attributes provide the necessary aesthetic qualities to earn the sanctified "10" technical assessment, with its overall radiance placing it as one of the finest looking 1968 Dexter Press Postcards extant. Measuring approximately 3-1/2" x 5-1/2", Aaron is casually resting on his right knee with his mighty lumber right alongside his brilliantly hued Atlanta Braves home uniform. The world-class image reveals immaculate resolution, no surface flaws are evident, and the corners portray blistering sharp tips.

One of this card's extreme superlatives is the super detailed Aaron biography on the verso that includes a facsimile Hank Aaron autograph and Dexter Press copyright/serial number. The 1968 Dexter Press postcards arguably provide the most informative "player bio's" of any baseball card issue, including vast player related statistics, awards and personal information. It was only 6 years later that the immortal Aaron would blast his 715th home run on April 8th 1974 at Fulton County Stadium against the Dodger's hard-throwing southpaw Al Downing, finally surpassing Babe Ruth's magical 714 mark. That magnificent moment could virtually freeze time and render even the most advanced enthusiast absolutely speechless, sparking a momentous hobby interest for the iconic Henry Aaron. Considering his lifetime achievements read like a "War and Peace" novel, what hobbyist would not want to gather his most esteemed cardboard artifacts, with this virtually "perfect" Dexter Press offering truly defining Aaron's baseball standing via its uncontested "king of the hill" PSA Pop Report stature!
