(LOT 137)
Don Baylor's 1995 "Manager of the Year" Sporting News Trophy -Colorado Rockies – Becky Baylor Signed LOA

After an ultra-distinguished playing, and ng career, Don Baylor would achieve one of his ultimate professional dreams when he was selected as the manager of the expansion Colorado Rockies for their inaugural 1993 season. Plating their home games at Mile High Stadium, Baylor would lead the Rockies for 6 consecutive seasons ('93 – '98), and in the strike-shortened 1995 campaign, claim his only post-season appearance with the Rockies as a wild-card team in the new post-season division series format. Finishing with a 77-67 record in the strike-shortened regular season, Baylor's Rockies would play the Atlanta Braves in a "Best of 5" divisional series, eventually losing in four games.

Still, it was a momentous event for Colorado to even participate in a playoff event, with the Sporting News ultimately recognizing Baylor's incredible achievement by naming him Manager of the Year. The clear acrylic-type Sporting News award is approximately 7 inches high and is rounded at the top. The upper rounded region includes the following eloquent text engraved in a circular pattern: "The Sporting News AWARDS" with four within engraved action silhouettes of a hockey, basketball, football and baseball players (from left to right) affixed within the center of the upper circle. The lower region includes additional etchings as follows: "NATIONAL LEAGUE – MANAGER OF THE YEAR – 1995 – DON BAYLOR – COLORADO ROCKIES", and the base reflects an oval shape.

Presenting itself in excellent condition, other than some minor damage on the top right corner, this eye pleasing trophy has defied time over the past 24 years with dimensions of roughly 4-7/8" x 7-3/4" and a weight of approximately 5 Lbs. One of Don's favorite and most significant collectibles, it stands as a sheer reminder of how Mr. Baylor was not only a world class success from the batter's box, but likewise from the dugout bench as the unparalleled leader and/or skipper of the upstart Colorado Rockies! - LOA from Becky Baylor
