(LOT 129)
Don Baylor's 1988 Oakland Athletics A.L. Championship Ring by JOSTENS

The 1988 American League Championship series would pit Don Baylor's powerhouse Oakland Athletics against the Eastern Division champion Boston Red Sox. Now a member of the Athletics, Baylor had recently enjoyed a World Championship season with the Minnesota Twins in 1987, finally realizing his ultimate dream of claiming a World Series title. The 1988 campaign would be Baylor's last hurrah as a player, and in a part-time role, he contributed 7 homers and 34 RBI's in only 264 "official" at bats. The powerhouse Athletics would sweep Baylor's former club in 4 games, only to go on to the Fall Classic and have the tables turned on them, with the L.A. Dodgers led by pitching sensation Oral Hershiser and Kirk Gibson's miraculous game #1 winning round-tripper ironically besting the Athletics in five games.

Serving as an outstanding heirloom from the 1988 ALCS, presented here is Don Baylor's Oakland Athletics ALCS Championship 10 Karat gold ring. This unique approximate 35-gram/11.5 sized offering includes the classic "A's" logo with 12 round diamonds that is affixed to a breathtaking emerald green hued stone. Encompassing the stone is the following raised verbiage: "OAKLAND – 1988 - AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" with the right-side shank depicting "Athletics – A's-4; B-0, and a simulated image of their RingCentral Coliseum ballpark and the 1988 attendance figure of 2,287, 335. The left shank includes BAYLOR'S name, "AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPS", the classic Athletics Elephant Logo that goes back to the days of legendary manager Connie Mack and Baylor's #12 affixed to a baseball. The inner band includes the critical "10K©JOSTENS" manufacturer stamp and only a few stray scratches do not impede the NM/MT aesthetics.

The final exclamation point is the impressive wooden presentation box that includes a small plaque on the inside engraved as follows: "Oakland Athletics – 1988 American League Champions – Don Baylor" as well as a green velvet slot to hold the ring. Another key memento from the illustrious Baylor collection, it stands as a sheer testament to his unequivocal winning ways and leadership qualities that ably assisted the Athletics in claiming an ALCS championship in his final 1988 campaign!
