c.1931 Babe Ruth Universal City Portrait Image – PSA Type I Photo – Measures Approx. 7-1/8" x 9" – PSA Type I Encapsulation

It is no secret that Babe Ruth is one of the most iconic figures in American culture, with his popularity spreading far beyond a baseball field. During his prestigious playing days, the "Sultan of Swat" was relentlessly pursued by a seemingly infinite number of manufacturers, radio studios and Hollywood establishments for the purpose of utilizing "The Babe's" unparalleled mystique for promotional purposes. Ably assisted by his renowned agent Christy Walsh, the ultra-flamboyant Ruth never seemed to back down from any publicity opportunity, and appeared in several movies throughout his career with "Headin Home", "Babe Comes Home" and "Pride of the Yankees" being three of his most prestigious films. As a keepsake from one his moving pictures signed contracts, this original PSA Type 1 offering depicts Ruth upon signing a contract with the illustrious Universal City California based studio.

An absolutely imposing 7-1/8" x 9" image, it portrays Ruth in his period-style formal attire with the Bambino exhibiting an incredible stoic facial expression as he glances towards the left. The black & white illustration reflects crystal clear clarity and stupendous contrast, with the surface exhibiting some spotted areas that were previously impacted by moisture. The verso includes a typed note reading: "Babe Ruth begins his moving picture contract at Universal City", with the off-white surface revealing no serious blemishes. An ultra-eclectic Ruth offering, it stands as a steadfast reminder of how the Bambino's "off the baseball field" activities were likewise momentous, and a direct reflection of his incomparable persona! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
