(LOT 115)
c.1930's Lou Gehrig PSA Type II Times Wide World Photos – Measures Approx. 6" x 8" – Full PSA Type II LOA

Presented here is a superb circa 1930's Lou Gehrig 6" x 8" Wide World Photo that stands as one of the most stoic facial images of the "Iron Horse" in the hobby. A re-strike from the 1930's (the original was taken in the fall of 1927), while PSA has classified it as a Type 2 photo, it was still issued approximately 80 years ago from the original negative and most likely within some 5 years of its inaugural 1927 issue date. Gehrig's revered pose portrays crystal clear clarity and the finest possible contrast as he dons his classic Yankee pinstripes.

Well-centered between four bright white borders, we cannot detect any obtrusive surface flaws, with the verso reflecting "Lou Gehrig" and a "10/5/27" pencil notations. The original negative was most likely struck during the legendary 1927 fall Classic when the Yankees blasted the pirates in four straight games to capture their second world championship. Gehrig's legacy is best defined by the fact that he was the quiet hero, simply going about his business without a mere "blip", such to the point that the mention of his name inspires a still tranquility amongst his vast following. - Full PSA/DNA Type II LOA
