(LOT 84)
1909 T206 UZIT Ty Cobb (PSA EX/MT 6) - "1 of 1" & the HIGHEST GRADED Example on the COMBINED PSA & SGC "Pop" Charts!

Presented here is one of the most incredible T206 specimens extant with this "unique for the grade" PSA EX/MT 6 T206 UZIT Ty Cobb easily standing tall as one of the foremost tobacco gems in the hobby. Its "one of a kind" stature relating to its miraculous technical assessment currently places it as the highest graded UZIT Cobb on the COMBINED PSA and SGC "Pop" Charts! True, while it is not a T206 Wagner, Plank, or Doyle variation, one must ponder the sheer paucity level of ANY UZIT subject, and considering it represents the "Georgia Peach" and maintains a pinnacle technical assessment, this "trifecta" of world-class attributes merits it a solidified place as one of the foremost T206s.

After the famous St. Louis Drum find, UZIT cards are arguably equal to DRUM in scarcity, and only a handful of tobacco cards can possibly boast the prestige of the Cobb/UZIT dynamic duo. In fact, considering there are less than 10 PSA encapsulated copies, it easily surpasses the rarity level of the iconic and ultra-valuable "Ty Cobb w/a Cobb Tobacco ad back" of which 23 copies are known to exist. Any pre-WWI Ty Cobb cardboard scarcity merits the highest hobby accolades and why not? His uncanny batting achievements rightfully earned him a 1936 Charter Membership to baseball's illustrious Hall of Fame with his unfathomable 12 batting titles in 13 seasons leading to a record .366 lifetime average (including 9 consecutive campaigns from 1907-1915).

With that said, we cannot imagine a more formidable collectible than this finest graded T206 obscurity that synonymous with Cobb's unparalleled batting exploits, stands alone at the top of the charts. Its well-merited PSA 6 assessment is based on the overall breathtaking aesthetics, starting with Cobb's sparkling "hands apart" classic batting grip as he prepares to stroke another one of his 4,189 safeties. Atypically, this richly hued image depicts virtually dead-on" 50/50 centering between four snow white borders, with a majority of Cobb "Bat Off" subjects portraying skewed images. A brilliant array of bright blue, yellow, orange, and green hues project Cobb's timeless pose in a magnificent manner, no glaring surface flaws are evident and the modest corner "touching" (especially to the upper left and lower right corners) appears to be the only negligible flaws preventing a Near-Mint assessment.

The flipside reveals the critical bold blue UZIT Cigarette advertisement along with the small factory related text: "Factory #30, 2nd Dist. State, N.Y." that are both affixed to a lightly toned surface. To reiterate, finding any T206 UZIT relic is a daunting challenge, let alone locating one that stands as Ty Cobb's irrefutable highest graded example. It was several years ago that this same offering sold for a staggering $108,000, and considering how rare T206 ad-back Hall of Famer tobacco cards continue to steamroll ahead with regard to extraordinary pricing points, we will defer to you, the sophisticated collector, to ultimately decide the true value of this "best of the rest" UZIT Cobb!
