(LOT 20)
Mel Ott Single Signed Baseball PSA/DNA NM 7 LOA and JSA LOA

They called him "Master Melvin" for a reason. Because he had the eye of the tiger. To many, this 500 Home Run hitter is the greatest hitter to ever live. Why not Ruth or Foxx? According to the stats, he was the base on balls king. He drew 5 walks in a game 3 times. He set the NL record for most walks in a double header with 6 in 1929 and then did it again in 1944. In '43, he tied the consecutive walk record with 7! Patience is what Melvin Thomas Ott displayed. His charisma aided to his career in amassing 511 Home Runs. He ONLY played for the New York Giants (1926-1947). He was a World Series champion, a 12X All-Star, 6X NL Home Run Leader and an NL RBI Leader. One important thing to note is that NL hitters had a tougher time hitting Home Runs than AL hitters. According to the facts, during Ott's prime years (1931-1941), AL batters averaged 21% more Home Runs peaking at 41% more Home Runs than their NL counterparts. Ruth and Foxx were the only players to surpass Ott in this window of time. He was a pure legend deserving his entrance into the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1951.

He was a GENTLE GIANT at 5'9", 170 lbs., who left this world way to soon at the young age of 49. Ott was involved in an auto accident in Bay St.Louis in '58 and died one week later. In 2006, Ott was featured on a United States postage stamp, as one of a block of four honoring "Baseball Sluggers" — the others being Mickey Mantle, Hank Greenberg, and Roy Campanella. In announcing the stamps, the U.S. Postal Service stated, "Remembered as powerful hitters who wowed fans with awesome and often record-breaking home runs, these four men were also versatile players who helped to lead their teams to victory and set impressive standards for subsequent generations".

Proudly offered here by Memory Lane, is a single signed Official National League Warren Giles Baseball signed by this 500 Home Run Member, on the side panel with NO PERSONALIZATION. A very rare feat to witness. This side panel signature grades a PSA 7 per PSA's grading standards. The baseball itself grades a 6. With such sensational eye appeal, PSA has given this sphere a 1/2 grade bump making this baseball an overall PSA 7 NM Grade. Earmarking when Master Melvin signed this baseball came easy to us per the O'Neal M. Hobbs stamping. Hobbs graced us with his presence in 1956 when he became the Western League president, 2 years before Ott passed. For a baseball to be stamped Official National League and then be reassigned to the Western League, gives us the inclination that this baseball was signed between 1956 and 1958. One of the rarest relics we've ever offered, baseball comes with full letters of documentation from PSA/DNA and JSA. A super rare single signed baseball you don't want to miss.
