(LOT 1)
1909 T206 Ty Cobb – Green Portrait – "Sweet Caporal 150 Subjects/Factory 30 (PSA NM-MT 8) - HIGHEST GRADED EXAMPLE for ALL Ad Backs!

No one would argue that one of the "hottest" collectibles in the card market is the hallowed T206 "Green Portrait" that is realizing record prices with each and every sale. Incredibly, all grade levels continue to soar in value with a PSA NM/MT 8 example achieving a staggering $360,000 price tag in the summer of 2018! Safe to say, the Green Portrait Ty Cobb's incredible legacy is growing stronger each and every day, with the collecting community exhibiting an unquenchable desire to capture the most formidable examples. Of the four hallowed T206 Cobb issues, the most treasured subject has always been the Ty Cobb Green Portrait pose portraying Carl Horner's seemingly timeless Cobb image.

Easily residing as one of the most coveted cardboard mementos in the hobby, it is included on virtually every elite enthusiast's "top 10" list including PSA's "Top 250 Sports Cards" publication. Interestingly enough, of the nearly 900 PSA encapsulated copies, NOT A SINGLE SPECIMEN has managed to achieve an assessment higher than a PSA 8, with PSA's illustrious "Pop" Chart listing a meager eight PSA 8's as the finest graded examples. With that in mind, presented here just happens to be one of those elusive PSA 8's, a breathtaking rendition of one of the hobby's most formidable cards at its pinnacle assessment! Furthermore, this world-class offering reflects a Sweet Caporal 150 Subjects/Factory 30 ad back, with only four (or half) of those eight PSA 8 Green Portrait Cobb's listed as Sweet Cap subjects.

An unparalleled gem to say the least, its premier grade places it alongside other hobby icons such as the Baltimore News Ruth, Babe Ruth M101 Rookie, T206 Plank, T206 Ty Cobb w/a Cobb ad back, '33 Goudey Lajoie, and '52 Topps Mantle (just to mention a few) as one of the most significant, desirable and valuable sports cards extant. Along with Babe Ruth and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, no pre-war Hall of Famer carries the prestige among sophisticated hobbyists as the immortal "Georgia Peach". His playing brilliance has earned him pinnacle like hobby accolades, and it was no surprise when the baseball writers of America chose him as one of our National Pastime's five original 1936 Hall of Fame charter members along with Ruth, Wagner, Mathewson and Johnson.

Of Cobb's 12 batting championships, 9 were won in consecutive fashion (1907-1915), with his .366 lifetime average still "head and heals" above its closest competitor (Hornsby's .358). Cobb easily ranks as one of baseball's all-time players, justifying why his renowned baseball card issues are aggressively pursued by advanced collectors, with none more popular than the illustrious T206 Green Portrait subject. Synonymous with his remarkable playing prowess is the utter "brilliance" associated with this NM/MT marvel that portrays a splendid Carl Horner portrait pose of the fiery batting champion. The well centered iconic Cobb image reveals a seemingly flawless and robust green background, with only a slight favoritism towards the right edge. encompassed by four blinding white borders and a sharp perimeter.

Additional highlights include strikingly rich pink hues on Cobb's cheeks, blinding white borders, pack-fresh surfaces and razor-sharp corner tips. Literally speaking, the legendary image seems to transcend time back to a by-gone era when the "Georgia Peach" ruled America's Pastime in a manner that mesmerized his overmatched peers. The final exclamation point is a brilliant verso that reveals a bold red Sweet Caporal 150 Subjects advertisement and super clean surface. Unquestionably, it proudly stands tall as one of the finest preserved Green Portrait Cobb's on the planet, and we cannot possibly imagine any of the other seven PSA 8 specimens boasting finer bragging rights with respect to this museum worthy offering's spellbinding aesthetics.

As is the case with any superior baseball card, we can only speculate as to the limits of its soaring value that has already reached the hefty sum of $360,000. What we do know for sure is that the hobby's most revered cardboard keepsakes continue rising in value synonymous to an uncontrollable brush fire. That said, considering this majestic Green Cobb's unequivocal hobby standing, its "spine-tingling" eye appeal and irrefutable "best of the rest" PSA 8 assessment, we cannot imagine a finer cardboard memento to capture as a sound investment opportunity and quintessential centerpiece attraction for your esteemed collection!
