(LOT 53)
1915 Cracker Jack #19 Chief Bender (PSA NM-MT 8) – Only 2 Examples Graded Higher!

Charles Albert "Chief' Bender was the architect of over 200 victories and four single-season sub-2.00 ERA's, and he was called upon "time after time" by Connie Mack to deliver a crucial World Series win. Bender did not disappoint his immortal manager, winning 6 World Series games in assisting the A's in winning three World Championships. His popularity is vast among the most esteemed vintage card enthusiasts, and no Bender cardboard keepsake may be more coveted than his renowned Cracker Jack subject. Presented here just happens to be the Hall of Fame right-hander's 1915 Cracker Jack in an astonishing PSA NM-MT 8 holder.

Scarce at this stratospheric plateau, only sixteen other examples exist at this level with a meager 2 specimens graded higher! Bender's classic portrait representation on this offering is nothing short of breathtaking, set against a "fire engine" unblemished red background and exhibiting fine centering that reveals only a slight favoritism towards the left edge. Bright borders, pinpoint corners and sharp edging provide a spectacular perimeter, and the reverse side text still retains its original bold black quality. As previously stated, Connie Mack called upon Bender to win a critical World Series game a seemingly infinite number of times, and likewise, we highly advise you to answer the bell and seize this 104-year-old masterpiece that has only been bested by two paltry examples!
