(LOT 628)
1930's "Murderer's Row" Type I Photo: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri & Earl Combs - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-5/8" - PSA Type I LOA

No photo could possibly better define the New York Yankee's 1930's dominance than this Type I original offering of Lou Gehrig, Earl Combs, Tony Lazzeri and Babe Ruth. This virtually lethal "Murderer's Row" quartet dominated pitchers at an unparalleled level, paving the way for 2 consecutive World Championships in 1927 and 1928. The super clear black & white image reflects the classic red, white and blue "bunting" alongside the Yankee Stadium grandstands.

Led by their awesome offensive assault, the Yankees would win 8 consecutive World Series games in 1927 and 1928, sweeping both the Pirates and Cardinals while staking a claim as baseball's greatest team ever. This candid shot captures the iconic "four" in a leisurely moment with each Cooperstown inductee holding their mighty lumber. The only glaring flaws appear to be three chipped corners and some stray notations within the borders, none of which impede the classic central image. Arguably no four players on any single team ever produced the slugging production as "Murderer's Row", with this seemingly timeless image the perfect testament to their unbridled legacy! Correction this photo was taken Opening Day, April 14th in 1931.
