(LOT 14)
1909 T206 Piedmont 350/25 Cy Young Cleveland, Portrait PSA 6 EX-MT

Among the most coveted of all T206 subjects is the highly prestigious Cy Young "portrait" specimen that is presented here in a spectacular PSA 6 holder. Indeed, along with the "Big Four", all four Ty Cobb subjects and the Walter Johnson/Mathewson portrait specimens, no T206 subject carries the prestige of the revered Cy Young portrait depicting the classic Carl Horner illustration. Cy Young is the legendary author of baseball's unbreakable record of 511 lifetime victories, justifying why baseball chose his name to represent the annual pitching excellence award.

His "Cy" nickname was achieved early in his career when one of his fastball blew past a catcher and shattered a nearby fence, prompting a newspaper reporter to compare Young's fastball to a destructive "Cyclone"! Obviously, the nickname stuck, with Young referred to as "Cy" the remainder of his incomparable career. The remarkable portrait image on this timeless cardboard wonder continues to emanate a majority of its original stellar attributes including brilliant facial tints, a relatively clean green background and bright white borders.

Only the upper left corner exhibits some noted wear, preventing the card from achieving a higher assessment. The final superlative is the bold midnight blue Piedmont 350 Subjects verso, with this magnificent Cy Young heirloom destined for a final resting place in one of the hobby's most advanced T206 compilations!
