One of the more nebulous pin sets is the Orbit Gum Pins (PR2) issued by the Orbit Gum Company in 1932. The PR2 cataloged pins include checklist #'s 1-40, with 14 pins after #40 including skipped checklist #'s up to #120. Three variations are included (checklist#'s 31, 32 & 33), accounting for a total of 57 pins in the complete master set. One of the few pin compilations associated with a gum distributor, it is believed the set is somewhat related to the popular 1933 Tatoo Orbit set. Brilliant, almost pastel like, lithographic portrait images are set against a powder-green hues background, with each pin measuring approximately 13/16 of an inch in diameter. Each player's name and team are printed in bold black text, affixed to a yellow setting directly beneath the classic images and unlike many celluloid/pin related issues, the player poses are printed directly onto the metal pin as opposed to being printed on a paper covering.
Considered extremely eclectic and condition sensitive, rarely do any of these pre-war relics surface for the taking, justifying why this astonishing 56-pin 98.25% complete PSA Graded set suffices as a grand opportunity for any pinback enthusiast. Depicting a staggering 7.703 G.P.A. w/"Top Pop Bonuses", this magnificent gathering stands as the 6th finest set on the current PSA Set Registry! It includes 53 of the 54 basic subjects (only missing #6 Kiki Cuyler) plus the 3 variations (#31-O'Doul/Giants; #32-English/without bat; #33-Jurges without bat). In total, 12 Hall of Famers are included with the technical assessments as follows: PSA 9's-2; PSA 8's-37; PSA 7's-9; PSA 6's-8. A total of 8 pins have achieved population status of "NONE Graded Higher" and nearly all of the 56 pins emanate stellar eye appeal, brilliant tints, and fine rims.
