New York Yankees Baseball Hall Of Famer, Babe Ruth was larger than life. The Great Bambino was a fan favorite. He was a mixture of fame and fortune yet so humble. He would be so kind to accommodate any kids autograph request if he could. Regardless of how busy he may have been, he still made trips to the hospital to see all the sick kids, made trips to schools to teach them the game of baseball during recess or making time with friends to go hunting, fishing or to go to an American Legion ball park to see the youngsters play. Whether it was for the Ford Motor Company or just on his own merit, Babe was a true fan of his fans. A true gentleman who tried his hardest to make time for everyone that wanted to meet him. And this is the story of a young boy who was one of the lucky ones to have met the Sultan of Swat, the Bambino, Mr. George Herman Babe Ruth. The year was 1942 and the filming of PRIDE OF THE YANKEES was in full swing at Samuel Goldwyn Studios.

Little Jerry Kirkwood, at the time, was invited to Samuel Goldwyn Studios to meet none other than the Babe himself. His Godfather had worked at the studio and in addition to that, his Godfathers half brother was a set photographer who was also the founder of the Samuel Goldwyn Studios Camera Club. He had a chance to photograph the Babe on the set of PRIDE OF THE YANKEES. It was the day where everything came together. One great birthday! Jerry showed up with his Godparents to the commissary at Samuel Goldwyn Studios for lunch with Babe Ruth and others. That day would hold a very special memory for the next 7 decades. Jerry would be handed an oversized 11x14 photo signed by the Babe that his Godfather's half brother, Bill Gillespie, had taken. It read, To Jerry, Sincerely, Babe Ruth". And boy did the Babe mean Sincerely. That's just the way he was. Young Jerry recalls that, "I would have loved to have had lunch with Mickey Mouse rather than the Babe because I didn't know at the time how famous Babe really was". Well, he was one lucky little boy who is now well into his late 80's is a lucky man to have saved this Babe Ruth signed 11x14 Photo which we are proud to offer up for auction.

The photo is being sold so monies can be divided up for his family members and as Jerry put it, "I'm happy to see it go to someone who can enjoy the Babe Ruth signed photo for another 10 decades". This photo which measures 11x14, has been professionally adhered to a matte which has an overall size is 15"x20". On the reverse is a stamping which not only adds value but provenance as well and reads, "Wm. L. Gillespie, Los Angeles, CALIF., Samuel Goldwyn Studios Camera Club". Gillespie has also signed the matte area in pencil, "Bill Gillespie '42". This is truly one of a kind and one piece of signed Babe Ruth memorabilia, authenticated by PSA/DNA, that you would find hard pressed to loose out on. A piece of true history signed by the Sultan Of Swat, The Great Bambino, Mr. George Herman Babe Ruth.
