(LOT 4)
1954 Topps #94 Ernie Banks Rookie PSA 9 MINT

MINT BANKS ROOKIE!!!... MLI is extremely pleased to be offering the rookie card of one of the games most beloved players, Ernie "Let's Play Two" Banks. Banks' popularity has never waned with collectors, and not only with Cubs fans. His 1954 TOPPS issue is on the want list of most serious collectors, and it's not too often that a PSA MINT 9 specimen comes up for auction. Well, if you've been holding out for an exceptionally high grade example, then your wait is finally over. This gorgeous card has been graded PSA MINT 9 and is just one of fourteen cards to have earned such a prestigious grade.

Only two of Banks' 1954 Topps cards have been graded Gem Mint 10 by PSA. Banks had a six year stretch in the early years of his career that was on par with what Mays and Aaron had put up. He was a Gold Glove winner at short, and an 11 time All-Star who also became the first and only shortstop to win the MVP award in back-to-back seasons. But as the man himself said in regards to winning awards "Awards mean a lot, but they don't say it all. The people in baseball mean more to me than statistics." It's no wonder why "Mr. Cub" is still so heavily admired and avidly collected to this day. Men like him, are and will always be, few and far between.
