Extremely Rare 1950 Bowman Baseball Un-cut 8 Card Sheet w/Hall of Famers Bob Feller, Robin Roberts and Ralph Kiner
In 1948, the prestigious Bowman Gum Company "threw their hat into the baseball card ring" by issuing their inaugural black & white baseball card set that also resided as one of the first post WWII sets distributed by any company. This renowned Philadelphia, PA based distributor continued their newfound success by portraying extremely colorful poses of America's most popular players on their next several issues, with the 1950 Bowman set including a whopping 252 subjects. Of significant note is that cards issued in the first two series (subjects 1 – 72) are considered scarcer than the remaining series.
With that in mind, presented here is an extremely rare 1950 Bowman un-cut rectangular sheet (4 1/4" x 10") depicting 8 separate players from series #1; three of which include Cooperstown Inductees "Rapid" Bob Feller, Robin Roberts and Ralph Kiner, as well as the ultra-popular Brooklyn Dodger star hurler Don Newcombe. Interestingly enough, the cards are numbered successively in pairs from top to bottom, with each successive pair separated by nine subjects (5-Bob Kuzava/6-Bob Feller; 14-Alex Kellnar/15-Al Kozar; 23-Don Newcombe/24-Johnny Schmitz; 32-Robin Roberts/33-Ralph Kiner.
All of the images reveal bright/sparkling hues, no glaring surface blemishes are evident, and only the lower right corner reveals noteworthy wear. With 1950 baseball cards realizing rising price tags each and every day, we will, let you, the sophisticated collector, ultimately determine the true value of this inspiring memento!
